I have tried many different hair care products over the years on myself and my clients. There are so many out there with so many different benefits it can be hard to know where to start. In my opinion there are 3 main factors that you need to ensure are part of your everyday hair care routine for all hair types.
Heat protection
Moisture
Protein
Making sure that all 3 of these things are somehow included in your day to day haircare routine will help you keep your hair at its healthiest and strongest. As far as hair care products go you really can get too much of a good thing. If you overload your hair with many different types of products (all for different benefits) then your hair will have a build up of product and this can leave it feeling lank, lifeless and can also cause it to become dirtier much quicker. Therefore, what really is the best option to stop this from happening is to find products that include many different benefits. There are a lot of different products like this on the market, and here are some of my favourites…
Davines All in One Milk
This is one of my all time favourite everyday products, mainly because it smells incredible! It has a very clean fresh smell that stays in your hair all day. It also leaves your hair feeling really soft and helps eliminate a lot of natural frizz from your hair. You have the option of buying a small sized bottle that holds 50ml of the product for around £15, (this is ideal if you like to try a product before committing to buying the full sized version) or you can buy the full sized bottle containing 135ml of product for around £22. You simply spray a generous amount on damp hair after shampooing and conditioning and blow dry the product in and continue with styling. What I particularly like about this product that is different from many of the other ‘all in one products’ is it helps protect your hair against harmful UV rays, therefore protecting the pigment in your hair, preventing any colour fade and stopping reducing the natural moisture in the hair. Redken Extreme Play Safe 230℃
This is a heat protectant cream. I cannot stress enough how important using a heat protectant on your hair is. This is my favourite heat protectant of all the ones I've tried before. A redken rep once told me not using a heat protectant is like taking a hot tray out of the oven bare handed, a cheap low quality heat protectant is like taking a hot tray out of the oven using a thin tea towel, and using an effective good quality heat protectant is like using an oven mitt. A cream is much more effective than a spray as it is far more concentrated and is far easier to distribute evenly and effectively throughout the hair as opposed to a spray. As well as protecting your hair from temperatures up to 230℃ Redken's ‘extreme’ range is a protein based range, aimed to aid hair that will have lost some of its natural protein due to use of heated tools, colouring, pollution and many more things that can dry out hair and cause it to lose some of its natural protein. This helps reduce breakage and repairs protein bonds within the hair. As well as being a heat protectant it also helps reduce the appearance of split ends, helping smooth them down and not leaving them fluffy and fly away. To use, you pump a generous amount of product on your hands and distribute evenly onto damp or dry hair after shampooing and conditioning but before styling. You can pick up a bottle from around £15-£21 depending where you buy from. Click the image below for a direct link to purchase this product.
Moroccanoil treatment original
This product is made mainly from morrocan argan oil, the miracle product for hair that everyone has been talking about. The best thing about this product is its versatility, you can use it for so many different things! You can use it as a deep conditioning treatment, an everyday oil to add moisture to your mid-lengths and ends or as a finishing product to smooth down any fly away fluffy hairs after styling. As you have probably already guessed it has an oily consistency and you don't have to use much of the product at all for it to be effective, therefore one bottle can last you ages! There is also a ‘light’ version of this product, aimed for people with finer, flatter hair that might find the original product too heavy for their hair. Morrocanoil contains the highest amount of concentrated argan oil of any argan oil infused product on the market. This improves the elasticity and shine on the hair. To use, you apply no more than 2 pea sized amounts to your hands and distribute evenly to your hair starting at the ends and working your way up to your mid lengths. Do not apply to the roots, this will leave your air looking greasy and your roots will not need any extra moisture as it is fairly newly grown hair. Although I love this product I would not recommend this product to anyone with cool toned blonde hair. The colour of the actual product is quite orangey and can cause blonde hair to become brassy and warmer toned. This can gradually stain the blonde hair and cause it to be a much warmer tone than wanted. If you have cool toned blonde hair I would recommend 100% pure organic coconut oil. This is transparent and won't cause any unwanted brassy tones. This comes in a solid form so you have to warm this up in between your hands so it becomes a liquid before applying to the hair. You can pick up moroccanoil treatment from around £13-£35 depending on the size of bottle you buy. Click the image below for a direct link to purchase this product.
There are many other products out there that I love but these 3 are the ones I use every time after shampooing and conditioning my hair, all 3 of them combined together include so many benefits without creating product build up and drowning my hair in too many products. All 3 of them suit nearly all different hair types and really help to keep hair healthy and strong in between hairdressing appointments.
Thank you so much for reading and hope this helps some of you choose your day to day hair products!
